Lego and Disney seal the toy deal
World re-noun toy maker, Lego have recently signed a deal with global cartoon animator, Disney to make and release toys associated with the world famous animated movies such as ‘Toy Story’, ‘Wall-E’ and ‘A Bug’s Life’.
From January 2010 lego will recreate characters from the film, Toy Story such as Woody and the much loved Buzz Lightyear. Late in the year 2010 the lego company will produce characters produced by the popular animated movie cars. And Prince of Persia-themed Lego will be available in the year 2009 aswell. Disney claimed that the recent deal would radically boost the toys industry and offer a new lease of life into the slopping economy.
I think this will be a long needed wake up call for the toy industry, considering that most young kids like buying most things digital these days it makes a welcome difference. To get kids’ imagination off of computer games and onto something much more constructive and original like Lego is a great idea. I can remember the days when kids only use to play with simple more original toys such as scalextric and train sets but those days are long gone. Now it is all Xbox this and PS3 that, which cost about ten times the amount as an original toy train set! There is no doubt that there is far more pressure on parents to deliver more expensive toys to their kids these days and it is not fair. Back in the mid to late 1980s you get a child a Christmas gift for under £50 now the market forces to spend at least over £100 on anything that is keeping in with current trends. No child ever want to be left out so the parents have no choice but to spend ridiculous amounts on presents.
Lego used to be the best Christmas or Birthday present ever and I think their efforts to try and get it back onto the market is a great idea. I used to love playing with lego and I think this collaboration with Disney will bring a much needed break from the norm.
