Food Packaging – The Difference Between Tempting and Terrible!

Next time you are in supermarket pop you head into the confectionery isle. Chances are the shelves will be overflowing with color – but why is this the case? The simple answer to this is because of food packaging. The confectionery industry is a cutthroat industry and if you don’t have brightly colored food packaging your product is going to fade away.

As you can see, food packaging is a critical element of any food product. Having great food is one thing but most people won’t buy it unless it is packaged nicely as well. Good food packaging is the key to having people buy and try your food.

You can do more than just make you product present well. Many products add the great benefits of their contents on the packaging as well. Many add things like ‘baked not fried’ or ‘a great source of protein’. And like them you should sell your customers the benefits of buying your food products over your competitors.

Benefits are not the only reason to have food packaging. Many countries actually have legal requirements for food packaging. Information such as the ingredients and contents are required to be printed on all food packaging sold in supermarkets. Also all warnings about the food contained within should be printed on the packaging. Allergy sufferers and people with dietary requirements can inspect the contents and ensure that the food is the right choice for them.

Another great benefit of food packaging is that is also protects the contents. The food can then be safely stacked and transported while maintaining its shape and form. Once through the whole transportation process, the food will still look as good as the day it left your production line.

Finally, you have to consider the ideal material for your food packaging. Can it be boxed? Would a plastic sachet be better? Secondly, does it need to be refrigerated or kept warm?

Ultimately though, to make sure that you food survives the rigors of transportation and the handling by supermarket shelf slackers and yet still remain appealing to customers, you will find that food packing is your best friend.
