Online Websites are good in that they allow you to buy one course as opposed to an Online Univeristy which requires you to earn a degree. Some online learning sites offer package deals in a particular topic or discipline. What should you consider when selecting an online learning site? Use the following as a guide for a start and then do a self assessment to make your online education experience as useful as possible.
Picking a Topic
This is the most obvious as you probably have a topic in mind. However, you should be looking towards the future as well. When making you course selections, look at the all parts of the course catalouge. Are there other courses you might be interested in? Consider if there are other subjects that would help expand you knowledge? Do the courses offered fit in with your self assessment? You want to be sure you can grow with the site and that the site offers both diversity in online course subjects and depth from beginner to advanced courses and related important subjects that might be worth studying.
Software
Any site you select should have certian basic features. The most important is navigation features including but not limited to a Detailed Table of Contents and Index. Remembering your location from your last visit is also important. Being able to access material previously studied is crutial to the learning process and retention. Extensive navigation is also important when evaluating your goals and objectives.
